SPALTED BASSWOOD

7/3/2020

I still have several spalted basswood logs left.  Here are some photos of spalted basswood so you can see the beauty, and how perfect the spalt is.  These are old logs, and fully dry.   Most diameters are around 9 - 10", but I still have a few up to  13 - 14', but the larger ones are going quick.  Lengths are between 24" and 36", and I can cut them to  your specifications.  These don't look good for slices,  and most people don't understand spalt, but they sure look great when cut lengthwise.  People who understand spalt, the beauty of it, and how hard it is to get it right, will really appreciate it.
Some customers want them cut into squares/rectangles for displays. I need to make room for new wood.  Let me know how you want yours cut.

Beech is not great at breaking, contrary to Internet lore. With area lines and bleaching, the sapwood does well, but because beech is mainly heartwood, you're not getting much bang for your buck.

I don't have any beech trees or wood. This post was about spalted basswood.
