EVERY TREE AND BRANCH IS UNIQUE. It is impossible for me to type up a price sheet. There are too many variables to have one price for all types, conditions, diameters, thicknesses, etc. I normally will determine the price AFTER the wood has been cut. Shipping is determined AFTER the product is packaged and weighed.
HOW MY PRICING IS DETERMINED: There are several variables used to determine the price of my wood products. Wood species Availability and stock on hand Demand Diameter Thickness Quantity Special requests Holes Drilled Sanded Treated or Untreated Special Cuts Rush Orders Over-all quality of final product
Actual time and costs for labor, materials, shop supplies are included in final price. For example, sanding a 3" piece of birch takes a lot less time and sanding paper than would a 14" piece of black ash. Sanding a large wood slice on both sides can take a long time depending upon what type of wood it is. Drilling a 1/4" hole through a slice of wood takes a lot less time than using a 1-1/2" forstner bit to drill a hole in a chunk of wood to fit a tea candle. A forstner bit costs about $30 each, and I can only sharpen them so many times before I have to buy a new one.
Although I really try to have all kinds and sizes of logs and branches in stock, it is almost impossible to store them all in the winter in Minnesota, in a heated building so that they aren't frozen solid. It costs me a fortune to heat my building. A frozen log that has not been stored indoors would have to be gradually thawed out before cutting it. If I were to slice up a frozen log, the thin wood slices would surely crack because of the rapid thaw. There is more thought put into this process than most people realize. I DO NOT PROVIDE SHIPPING QUOTES! I have had problems with a few customers in the past who did not realize how heavy wood is. After I spent a lot of time cutting their order, bought the boxes, tape, labels, etc. to package it up in, weighed the package, went online to determine shipping charges, and then finally emailed that information and a payment link to the customer, they cancelled the order completely because they felt that the shipping charges were too high. I got stuck with the order, and wasted a bunch of time. My theory is, if you can't afford shipping, you can't afford the wood.
CUSTOM ORDERS: All future custom orders will require a 50% down payment before any work is started. The remaining 50% plus shipping is due before product is shipped. I am not accepting any new custom orders at this time. I will be cutting the most poplar types and sizes of wood for now, and I can barely keep those in stock. That's a good thing! :)
