I was contacted early in 2011 by Carrie who wanted wood slices for a kids project. I gave Carrie a quote, and she said she would see if she could fit it into her budget. Meanwhile, I looked up Carrie's website and found out that her "kids" were children with complex medical, trauma, and other physical disabilities, and Carrie was trying to create new ways of working with her young patients. I donated some wood slices, and it looks like the kids had fun with them. Carrie sent me a very special story, written by Cyndi Lamb Curry, called The Story Of The Tree. (click to read the story) In Carrie's own words......... "Some of our patients listened to this story and then created these ornaments. Using a small slice of a tree branch, each child will be able to keep this reminder of the lessons that Gideon learned from the life of a tree. On the rim of each ornament is printed ‘[child’s name] is a GIFT’. We are blessed by the gifts our patients are to us.” The Children’s Center is a private, nonprofit pediatric hospital serving children with complex medical and physical disabilities in Bethany, Oklahoma, in the Oklahoma City metropolitan area, and is a place of hope and healing for children and their families. Wonderful by day or night. Any time of the year. The simple look of a few white paper birch branches in a vase adds a little touch of nature to any decor. The added touch of back-lighting creates even more charm. Thanksgiving Table Placecards  These small place cards are a wonderful idea for a Thanksgiving Day table. The pumpkins and name tags were placed on small maple branch slices, measuring only about 3" diameter. These are the coolest little name markers I have seen so far.
The bright green and brown frosting and flowers look great sitting on top of these birch pillars. What a fantastic idea!

My wood slices made it all the way to Haiti! 
 One of my customers makes an annual trip to Haiti to help out, and used my wood slices for name tags. The entire project had a wonderful outcome. Two holes were drilled and a string was added. Each person painted and added their name to the wood slices. What a great idea, and a wonderful person for helping the folks in Haiti. Alder Wood Name Tags  We used your 1-3/4" alder wood slices for our place settings at our wedding. The guest's name is on the front and the tree name on the back guides them to their table...... Marc
 Beautiful Poplar Wood Slice Sign This is a 6" diameter slice of poplar wood which has been elegantly written on with an ordinary black pen, after staining the wood with a light stain. This customer sure has talent! The lettering is exquisite. This wood sign was given to friends as a wedding gift.  Birch
Candle Holders On Wedding TableAmidst the beautiful flowers and table settings are groups of small birch candle holders. Please click on the small thumbnails to view larger photos. Slices of birch branches were also used for table numbering and signs which were tied to a caraf using jute rope. An absolutely gorgeous wedding. 
 Poplar Wood Slice Centerpiece For Wedding  Gorgeous wedding table setting using bright red flowers placed in a mason jar which is set on top of the poplar wood slice. Tea candles are placed in clear glass holders, with a silver colored table cloth. Wedding Place cards
Here are some great photos of name tags used at a rustic wedding. The names were added to maple wood slices using a black Sharpie marker. Wonderfully displayed on a weathered table, and gorgeous rustic centerpiece. Medallions

Wood Bases for Gem Trees One of my customers uses wood slices as the base for these beautiful Gem Trees. Click on the photo to see a larger photo of how intricate her work is. This wood slice is Balmagilead, about 10" in diameter and a little over 2" thick. The wood slice has been sanded very smooth and has several coats of varnish applied.
